My name is Eric Bates and I am a professional circus artist and co-founder of Barcode Circus Company. When I’m not creating or performing I like to get out of the cities and into the hills to explore the different landscapes I find myself in, with the hopes of coming back with a picture or a story to share. This blog is a way for me to keep in touch with my family and friends as I make my way around the world, and to create more than I consume.

I once heard chess described as a game of ‘beautiful problems’. I think this term captures well a trait of the human spirit that I love- a spirit of optimism and of seeking out new challenges that make us better both as people and as a species.

G.K. Chesterton once said, “An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered.” When we embrace the idea of challenge as a positive we can enjoy the world more, run faster, fly farther, keep more objects in the air, expand infinitely. I hope this blog invites you to do the same.

If you’d like to see more of the circus I do, please take a look at my company’s site, Barcode Circus Company  or @barcode_circus_company on instagram.
